The Chinese cuisine is one of the most famous cuisines in the world. It mainly consists of rice and noodles, and the food is often spicy and rich in flavor. Chinese food carries many cultural elements, and eating is considered a social occasion: It is customary to eat with friends or with family. While eating, each person uses his/her chopsticks to take food from plates that are located in the center of the table; The concept of personal dishes, as it is known in the West, is relatively unknown here.
As Chinese cuisine has spread globally, it has been adapted to local tastes and ingredients and modified by the local cuisine, to greater or lesser extents. This process has resulted in a number of forms of fusion cuisines, often very popular in the country in question, and some of these, such as ramen (Japanese Chinese) have become popular internationally.

A Culture of Food
Despite the unprecedented economic growth that has changed China in the past 33 years, one element that has not changed is the food. Chinese people love to eat, and they have a very good reason; The ritual of eating and the importance that food entails create an experience that is as unique as it is delicious. From Dim-Sum to Sichuan spicy dishes, the Chinese cuisine varies with location, and perhaps the most famous cuisines in China belong to SiChuan, Shandong and Guangdong provinces. Each style carries its own distinct characteristics and flavors, yet they all bring forth a culinary experience like nothing else.

ahh, you forgot Huaiyang dishes.
once two british engineers showed me some pictures they took from a Guangdong restaurant with their cellphone. There were snakes, monkeys, cats and some insects, which i will never eat. and when we went out to eat, they told me we must pick a normal restaurant.
a lot of foreigner get shocked by the location difference in China. once a time i took 2 indian engineer to shanghai old temple of God (城隍庙), a local shop owner speaked to me, but i completely don’t understand local shanghais’. they were so confused and asked me “you can understand what we are talking about, but why you chinese can not understand each other?”
Brian, I want to correct you that the food that you mentioned is only eaten in Guangdong, and also you can find many other foods there. So if foreigners are reading this don’t think this is what you eat in China. Chinese Cuisine is very wide and there are many types of foods that are not that “weird”…
Loved the video. Makes me want to go to China and check out the food.
The more I learn about China, the more I realize how little I really know. In the end, It’s hard to get good information about places other than what you know, because news doesn’t report everyday life. That’s why I enjoy reading about things that are simple. makes me understand other cultures better…
Hey cool video. For those who like it there is also Part 2 on youtube somewhere…
Real Chinese food is really underrated in the world as a top cuisine, but to be honest it is one of the best food types that I have ever tasted. The video did not mention one of the best dishes in Beijing: 烤鸭 (kaoya) – Beijing duck, which is, in my opinion, one of the best dishes the Chinese cuisine has to offer
Agree with John above me. Chinese food is top notch!! Luckily, there are many great Chinese restaurants in America, so we are not deprived.
This article does not do justice with Chinese food – The author should look at main kitchens and explain more about the flavors. I would also love to read more about how western food has penetrated China recently and the influence it has on health in China
