The flower designs made by sticking to a recipe, formula or following a picture are not the most imaginative and certainly are not original. These types of flower designs are expected from floral shops that satisfy orders for FTD, Teleflora, 1𗘸Flowers, and other flower wire companies. This is because customers order a floral design based upon a photo or image and request the exact same thing. It is likened to a franchise where you order from a menu and that's what you get, no matter which franchise you visit.
When I learned Ikebana as an adult, I was really fortunate to have had an old_fashioned sensei (instructor) who not only taught me the theory and techniques, but also immersed me in the respectable manners and ways of the good old days. It is through my sensei that I learned that Ikebana goes beyond the typical art form, and that it is more of a way of life; in fact, Ikebana is also known as kado, which literally means "the way of the flower."
